CHICAGO - The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) announces a deadline of Jan. 2, 2008, for application submissions for its second funding cycle. The Center awarded grants totaling almost $2.4 million to eight U.S. organizations and one international organization in 2007.

The Center for Regulatory Excellence Grant Program funds innovative projects that can have measurable impact on nursing regulation and can create meaningful change. These include, but are not limited to, projects such as: policy analysis, outcomes research / identification of best practices, program evaluations and surveys. The Center's research priorities include: continuing competence, patient safety, licensure, discipline, regulation of nursing education, integration of the internationally educated nurse into the U.S. workforce and nursing regulation issues outside the U.S.  NC ... NCSBN inducted its inaugural group of Fellows of the NCSBN Regulatory Institute on Aug. 9, 2007, during the NCSBN Annual Meeting and Delegate Assembly held in Chicago.

 

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN) inducted its inaugural group of Fellows of the NCSBN Regulatory Institute on Aug. 9, 2007, during the NCSBN Annual Meeting and Delegate Assembly held in Chicago. The Institute for Regulatory Excellence (IRE) began in 2004 with the purpose of providing boards of nursing with high quality regulatory education, expanding the body of knowledge related to regulation through research and scholarly work, developing the capacity of regulators to become expert leaders, and developing a network of regulators who collaborate to improve regulatory practices and outcomes. NCSBN recognized its dedicated and exceptional membership and guests at its annual awards luncheon.

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) recognized its dedicated and exceptional membership and guests at its annual awards luncheon during the NCSBN Delegate Assembly held in Chicago, Aug. 7 – 10, 2007.

Specific award recipients include:

Polly Johnson, MSN, RN, FAAN, executive director, North Carolina State Board of Nursing, was honored with the R. Louise McManus Award, the most prestigious of NCSBN's awards. NCSBN met Aug. 7-10 in Chicago to consider pertinent association business with its member boards of nursing.

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) met in Chicago, Aug. 7 – 10, 2007, to consider pertinent association business with its member boards of nursing. Faith Fields, NCSBN president and executive director of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing, presided at the meeting.  All 59 member boards were represented by delegates.

Highlights of some of the significant actions approved by the member boards of nursing included:

The NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure EXamination-Registered Nurse) is a computer-adaptive test of entry-level nursing competence. Passing the exam is required of candidates for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) by all US state and territorial Boards of Nursing.

The NCLEX-RN® and NCLEX-PN® examinations are developed and owned by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN®). NCSBN administers these examinations on behalf of its member boards which consist of the boards of nursing in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands.

EDUCATION AND TEST PREPARATION PRODUCTS AND SERVICES


Yokohama,Japan—May 30, 2007—Kaplan, a leading international provider of educational and career
services, and the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS International), a
leading provider of nursing certification and professional development, today announced a preliminary
agreement to create a strategic alliance to develop online and offline nursing education and test

Michigan Board of Nursing Changes Its Requirements For Internationally Educated Nurses

PHILADELPHIA, PA — July 25, 2007 — Internationally-educated nurses who wish to practice in the
state of Michigan should be advised that the Michigan Board of Nursing (BON) has adopted new
regulations for international nurses. The new regulations are effective June 14, 2007.
The CGFNS Certification Program Certificate (CP) is no longer the requirement for initial licensure for
internationally-educated Registered Nurses (RNs) in Michigan. Michigan now requires the CGFNS
Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) Full Education Course-by-Course Report for internationallyeducated
RNs and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) applying for licensure, who have not been licensed
in another US jurisdiction for at least 5 years. Although the CGFNS Certification Program (CP)
