CHICAGO - The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) Center for Regulatory Excellence Grant Program recently awarded grants totaling almost $2.4 million to eight U.S. organizations and one international organization.

The Center for Regulatory Excellence Grant Program funds innovative projects that can have measurable impact on nursing regulation and can create meaningful change. The Center's research priorities include continuing competence, patient safety, licensure, discipline, regulation of nursing education, integration of the internationally educated nurse into the U.S. workforce and nursing regulation issues outside the U.S. Projects selected in this funding cycle focused on these priorities and had sound scientific merit.

Grants were awarded to the following institutions, organizations and programs:
Northwestern University for “NP CAPS Study: Nurse Practitioner Certification and Practice Setting Study.”

NCSBN is pleased to announce that Rhode Island recently passed legislation to join the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). The state will begin the rule writing process to work toward implementation of the NLC in 2008.

CHICAGO - The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is pleased to announce that Rhode Island recently passed legislation to join the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). The state will begin the rule writing process to work toward implementation of the NLC in 2008.

The concept of the mutual recognition of nurse licensure is what the NLC model is based upon, and the NLC seeks to simplify government processes and remove regulatory barriers in order to increase access to safe nursing care. NCSBN and its member boards of nursing arrived at this model in response to the rapidly evolving health care environment, which includes emerging practice modalities and technology (e.g., telenursing) for nurses who practice across state ... NCSBN will begin NCLEX testing in Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, at the international Pearson Professional Center on Aug. 23, 2007. Scheduling for examination appointments will begin on July 13, 2007.

CHICAGO - The National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN) will begin NCLEX testing in Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, at the international Pearson Professional Center on Aug. 23, 2007. Scheduling for examination appointments will begin on July 13, 2007.

The Manila site was chosen in February by the NCSBN Board of Directors because of the deep commitment shown by the Philippine government to ensuring a secure test center. The placement of a test site in the Philippines will allow for greater customer service to nurses without compromising the goal of safeguarding the public health, safety and welfare of patients in the U.S.
